Network Problem in E40 -- Watchmaker Area Affected

At roughly 10:30pm this evening (Saturday) the E40 (18.72) network
became unusable. As this network has critical servers on it, Tom and
I came in to diagnose the problem.
We tracked it down to the thin-wire drop running to the watchmaker
area. The problem is intermittent in nature, if we reconnected it,
things might be stable for some time.
To be conservative, we have left the drop disconnected in the phone
closet (note the timestamp on this message...it was time to sleep).
This implies that several (about 4) machines in the watchmaker area
are now off the network. Someone will deal with this problem either
tomorrow or on Monday.
