As some of you may have heard, we will shortly be releasing new
software for all Athena workstations. This is because of one serious
bug on the VAX and RT which was triggered by the new RISC/6000
workstations, and a name resolution problem on the DECstations.

The current plan is to release the new VAX, RT, and DECstation
software to the testers' workstations ASAP, probably this weekend.
It will only be made available to the rest of campus when we are sure
that no additional problems have been introduced, probably after a
week of testing. Only after all NFS servers have been updated can the
RISC/6000 workstations be turned on again.

You should take this update when it comes out, even if you have
customized workstations. It is important that any VAX or RT which is
used as an NFS server get the new kernel. With this kernel, you could
leave the machine at 7.3M, although we do strongly suggest that you
just take the update.
