When I came into this cluster, m2-225-4 (running Linux) was at an "enter
root password to fsck disk" prompt, having had its /dev/hda7 fail its fsck.

I supplied the password and ran "fsck /dev/hda7". Two times I recieved
an error from fsck like the following:

Error reading block 3768320 (Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted
in short read) while reading inode and block bitmaps. Ignore error<y>?

I answered "y" to all of fsck's questions; there was only one other
filesystem error to be fixed. I then rebooted.

The system went through various init scripts and while running "Starting
public workstation integrity check", the kernel syslogged a number of
messages to the console about I/O errors, uncorrectable errors, like this:

hda: dma_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError} ...
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:07 (hda), sector 29956112

Looks like a dying disk to me.
