Possible problem in a workstation

I am using workstation E51-007-9 and could not access the floppy disk
drive (with the usual commands: dosdir, dosread), getting the error message
can't open /dev/fd0 for input
After a short conversation with a Athena consultant, he suggested me that a
problem may exist in this workstation. Hence, this report.
