The problem was indeed with the Ultrix 4.2 named program. I
installed the CRL version on the system packs (and updated the
"sys_rvd" stats file) but did not increment the release number. This
means that PUBLIC workstations will automatically take this fix next
time they reboot (and Anne and I manually updated the workstations in
the electronic classroom).
Private workstations will not get this fix until we officially
install a new release (or they manually run the "track" program to
update their workstation).
There is still some cleanup work that we need to do.
Specifically we need to decide the "right" fix. Do we leave what we
installed tonight (which is the CRL "as is" modified Berkeley named),
do we "fix" the Ultrix 4.2 named (which we can do now that we have
source, and I understand what we need to do), or do we modify "our"
named for use with the DECstation.
Regardless of what we decide, we need to make the source tree
correspond with the binaries now deployed in the field. I have the
sources squirreled away for now...

P.S. Only the "release" pack in the Athena AFS cell was fixed.
Workstations using the "testers" packs out of the rel-eng cell are not
affected, i.e. they will still get the broken named.
