I finally figured out what you were talking about...
If you look again at Young's message (assuming that is what you were
replying to), you'll see:

trillian# /etc/ping paris
/etc/ping: unknown host paris
------------
That doesn't look like a missing .rhosts file. It may be only the
lack of name resolution on Trillian which is causing the permission
error.

It wouldn't do you much good. I see that Trillian isn't responding to
ping...
