The dev.mit.edu AFS server rattle.mit.edu will go down for a
software upgrade beginning at 1am on Wednesday, 3/27/2002 (note that
this is late Tuesday night). The outage is expected to last
approximately 90 minutes, but if all goes well, rattle may be back more
quickly.

During the outage, all volumes stored on rattle will be
unavailable, and affected clients may experience console messages of the
form:

afs: lost contact with fileserver 18.7.15.89 in cell dev.mit.edu

rattle is also an AFS database server, so console messages of the form:

afs: lost contact with volume location server 18.7.15.89 in cell dev.mit.edu

may also be encountered.

This outage is most likely to affect machines in the alpha and
beta clusters, and should be invisible to most Athena users. As always,
status notifications regarding the outage will be sent to the consult
instance.
