The dev.mit.edu AFS server hum.mit.edu will go down for a
hardware upgrade beginning at 1am on Tuesday, 3/19/2002 (note that this
is late Monday night). The outage is expected to last approximately 90
minutes, but if all goes well, hum may be back more quickly.

During the outage, all volumes stored on hum will be
unavailable, and affected clients may experience console messages of the
form:

afs: lost contact with fileserver 18.7.15.93 in cell dev.mit.edu

hum is also an AFS database server, so console messages of the form:

afs: lost contact with volume location server 18.7.15.93 in cell dev.mit.edu

may also be encountered.

This outage is most likely to affect machines in the alpha and
beta clusters, and should be invisible to most Athena users. As always,
status notifications regarding the outage will be sent to the consult
instance.
