Dear Colleagues,
The Department of Facilities is working closely with the MIT Director
of Public Safety as well as the Cambridge Postmaster to ensure that
safety precautions are taken in the delivery of Institute mail.
In addition, the Department has implemented significant measures
within MIT Mail Services to address the safe delivery of packages on
campus. Since the incidents of September 11, 2001 we have retrained
all mail and shipping/receiving staff in identifying suspicious
packages and letters. Mail workers are securing all DMCs and we ask
that you check to make sure that the doors are secured when you
leave. For your convenience, we are leaving rubber gloves in the
DMCs.
In addition to mail initiatives, the Department is working with all
construction contractors to heighten security measures. One action
we are enforcing in order to maintain a safe environment is to secure
access to buildings on campus including mechanical rooms, crawl
spaces and roofs. If you have any questions in regard to these
measures, please contact securespace@mit.edu.
Regards,
Jim Wallace
Director of Operations
