Hi--I was told this is the appropriate contact for hardware issues in a
cluster.
I recently tried to access my zip 250 disk from the Dell Optiplex (white)
computers in the m56 cluster. I looked at the OLC info, after attempting
to mount the disk (using mount /dev/zip), and nothing was successful. (mtools
etc. all failed.)
The errors reported were a failure to find /dev/sda4, so I attempted to
fdisk /dev/sda, which returned a "device not found" error.
I soon realized that the Zip drive was connected by the parallel port, and
that neither parport_pc.o nor imm.o had been loaded.
I su'd to root, modprobed both in, then attempted again to mount /dev/zip,
which worked. I believe this to be a bug in how the machines are set up--
that imm.o and parport_pc.o are not loaded at boot-time is the problem.
