It appears that the machine had some kernel modules
added and various other things modified.

It attempted to run verify as it came back up and do
public workstation cleanup. Unfortunately things were
so out of wack that all it succeded in doing was deleting
its password file such that root can no longer log in.

It's pretty much dead in the water at this point.

P.S.: Is there a plan to label any of the machines in the
w20 cluster? it's kind of hard to figure out which machine
is which with a cursory glance.
