FERD.MIT.EDU, an Ultra 5 at the N42 front desk which belongs to the
Athena-RCC group, seems to have a damaged harddisk.
It did not come back up after the most recent power outage. I just
tried to reinstall the machine, and after the install starts, it
complains about a series of "uncorrectable bad data blocks on
disk ..." during the formatting stage. The install then proceeds
but later errors out while copying files to the root partition
complaining it is unable to write the files. I suspect a damaged
harddisk.
The machine is only used occasionally, so it is not critical that
it gets replaced right away. Whenever you get to it will be fine.
Thanks,
Oliver
