several machines stuck in the middle of an update

There are several machines that are stuck in the middle of an update,
and not taking patch releases. This can be fixed by following these
instructions *exactly*
1) login to the machine as root
2) use an editior to remove the last line, and *only* the last line
from /etc/athena/version. Be sure you did not leave any blank
lines at the end of the file.
3) log out
4) The machine should update to the lastest patch release in the next
day or two.
