On the evening of Wednesday, 4/11/2001, at 11:59pm, the zephyr
servers will be upgraded to a newer version of the zephyr server
program, aka "zephyrd". The purpose of this upgrade is to fix a bug in
zephyrd relating to the checking of checksums on new subscription
requests. The server upgrade should be mostly transparent to clients
that are actively using zephyr at the time, although some slowness may
be apparent.
One important consequence of this upgrade is that some zephyr
client will no longer be able to obtain subscriptions. This is true of
the zephyr clients in Athena releases prior to Athena 7.7, and more
importantly, all versions of WinZephyr prior to the version made
available on March 9, 2001.
We've attempted to contact users of affects WinZephyr clients,
but it's possible that some have been missed; if you're aware of users
who currently use WinZephyr, you may wish to make sure they have been
contacted and have upgraded to a sufficiently recent version.
If you have been contacted about this issue, please be sure to
upgrade your client prior to next Wednesday.
