The Department of Facilities is about to begin a major restoration of
Lobby 7. The scope of the work includes cleaning of the masonry,
installation of new lighting, and a reopening of the skylight.
The work will begin this weekend (March 24 and 25) with the
installation of scaffolding. A delivery will take place on Saturday
which will necessitate the closing of the lobby. Installation will
begin immediately and should be completed by Sunday. Some pedestrian
access will be available by Saturday evening, however, there will be
limited pedestrian access until the middle of next week.
In order to cause as little inconvenience as possible to the MIT
community, we chose the week of Spring Break to install the
scaffolding. The progress of the work will include preliminary
testing for cleaning method options for the masonry in April and May.
During this time period, we will also begin opening the skylight and
installing new lighting. Major cleaning will take place following
Commencement.
