There will be an outage of the dev.mit.edu AFS cell beginning at
1am Monday 5/29 (late Sunday night). During this time, each fileserver
in the cell will be rebooted in turn. Once this work is complete, there
will be a cell wide outage when the database processes on all the
servers are restarted simultaneously.
During the outage, clients may experience "afs: lost contact
with fileserver xx.xx.xx.xx in cell dev.mit.edu" console messages, and
data stored only on a single fileserver will be inaccessible while that
server is rebooting. Athena machines in the alpha and beta clusters
have their system packs located in the dev cell, and so will be affected
by this outage more than other Athena workstations. These system packs
are replicated, however, and so should be available continuously except
during the brief cell wide outage window of the database process
restart.
As always, notifications of the status of the outage will be
sent to the "consult" instance.
