Dear Everyone:
During the next 6 weekends, beginning with 5/19 thru 5/21, a special
seamless flooring system (silikal) will be installed on the floors in Bldg.
33. This material (very similar to the system installed in building 35-020
has a strong pungent odor that dissipates rapidly as it cures. In order to
protect the community from this odor, the following procedues will take
place:
* The work will start Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 4:00 pm
to 11:00 pm. and will begin with grinding the floor surface to prepare it
for the primer. The odoriferous material will not be applied until around
6:00 pm each night.
* Department of Facilities, FCS will shut down the air intake fans in
buildings 9, 31, 35, 37 at 4:00pm and put them back on line at 12:00
midnight each night.
* The contractor will seal off the area and install 4 ventilation
units to keep the work under negative pressure and discharge the untreated
exhaust out doors. The will be some odors outdoors in the bldg. 33 area.
Building 33 will be vacant during this work.
* MIT Industrial Hygiene will inspect the first set up.
It is recommended that all windows that have operable sashes be closed. No
Silikal flooring work will take place during normal business hours, only on
those hours listed above.
