Hi,
I have noticed a problem with periodic network outages (once every hour or
so, for varying amounts of time) every time I've logged in at m1-142 over
the past 3 months (only a few times). Since I very often use remote X
connections, it is more noticeable.
Today I captured a ping trace of one of these outages. My remote X
session hung from approximately 6:03-6:07pm. At the time, I had ping
running on the remote machine, pinging the local m1-142-13 machine once
per second. This trace is included below. Notice that the latency got
very high for a few seconds, and then 118 consecutive packets were lost.
By the way, over the course of the 33 minutes that I had ping running,
there was 8% packet loss.
This was a little mysterious to me (I haven't seen things like this
anywhere else on campus) so I thought I'd let you know about it.
