ajax has been persistently displaying 55.A errors for a while
now, but it was especially bad tonight, so I decided to look into it a
little more. The HP documentation I have is so vague as to be useless
("A temporary printing error occured"), but the error number is in the
right range to indicate a hardware failure. Unfortunately, I can't
figure out what part of the printer is bad. On older models of printer,
a 55 error indicated a problem with the power supply, but I don't
believe that to be the case with the 8000 series.

It seems clear, though, that ajax needs hardware service. The
best short term solution would be to replace the whole thing with new
hardware. Failing that, we might want to consider calling HP; I assume
they have diagnostics for narrowing down the faulty component.
