Hi,
This is directed at those full time (read: not student) staff in IS that
supervise students.
Recently, there have been many times when I have wanted to communicate with
all of the IS staff members who suprvise students and I haven't seen any
easy way to do that. It has occurred to me that perhaps the right thing to
do is to create a mailing list to facilitate communication between these
staff members.
If this makes complete sense to you and you want to be a part of this list,
please jump to the end and add yourself to the list!
If you're not sold yet, please read on...
Some of the reasons that it has occurred to me that I would like to talk to
all the others who supervise students are:
- I'm hiring and I'm looking for ideas of where to advertise
- I just hired and I have good students who I don't have space for, would
anyone like referrals?
- I'm giving students raises, and I want to make sure they are in line with
what other students in IS are paid.
- I'm looking for ideas for training meetings
- I have more students who want extra project hours this summer than I have
projects for, does anyone want to borrow some of them?
Some of these discussions could happen directly over email, some might lend
themselves to a face-to-face discussion. I think that a mailing list would
be a good starting place. Therefore, I have created issupers@mit.edu.
So, now that you're convinced that you want to be on this mailing list, or
you have a mailing list that you would like to add (e.g., I'll add
rccsuper@mit.edu rather than iggy@mit.edu) please let me (iggy@mit.edu)
know.
One other little thing. I'm not really happy with the name
issupers@mit.edu, so if anyone has a better suggestion, PLEASE let me know!
thanks, and I hope everyone will find this as useful as I think it will be.
