The problem here is probably that his home directory was detached when
he logged out. This is a normal part of reactivating a workstation
when no one is logged in. I'm not sure how he was avoiding the
problem before. One possibility is to 'attach -L llbjr' which "locks"
the locker so that it won't be detached by the normal reactivation
process. I can't guarantee that this will work across patch releases,
but it might. If it doesn't, he should try adding the line:

attach -h -n -L llbjr

to /var/server/.private (which should be an executable sh script.)

That said, running cron jobs as yourself is not something we
particularly support on athena wokstations. Hopefully, the above will
solve his problem tho.
