The Orientation Committee had requested 16 Sun SPARCclassics for use during
Orientation for the Freshmen Messaging System several weeks ago. I stopped
by i/s on Friday afternoon to check on the status of those machines and
when we could pick them up. According to the receptionist, i/s had never
heard of our request.
She suggested I email this account to see if you had heard of our request.
Orientation 1998 begins this upcoming Saturday and we need to have the FMS
system installed sometime Friday evening.
In case you are not aware of what FMS is, here is a brief overview. At
each dormitory front desk there is a Sun running the FMS client program
that is connected to the Clearinghouse server machine (usually in building
36). Freshmen are to check themselves in and out everytime they enter/exit
a dorm. When they do any messages that are for them are displayed. At the
Orientation Center (in W20) two machines are set up to actually enter
freshmen into the system as they arrive. Also any mesaages from the
Orientation Committee are sent from those machines.
Do you know of our request, and if not, how can we get these machines by
Friday?
I thank you in advance,
Duane Dreger
