Subject: New Printer for Athena at WHOI
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
We will be adding a new, second printer to our Athena cluster here at
WHOI. Can someone at Athena tech support work with me to get this
accomplished?
Some issues:
1. This new, second printer has not been purchased yet as I want to 1st
verify what printers are supported by Athena. We currently have an HP
Laserjet 4si MX named "scallop" whose print server is "tautog". Naomi
Schmidt indicated that either HP 5m or HP 5si MX are supported. I
assume these are newer versions of the Laserjet 4? Will the HP 5 series
require a JetDirect card to work w/Athena?
2. I would prefer this new printer be served by a 2nd print server, if
possible. This would require making another of our Athena workstations,
called "quahog", a print server. The reason for this is physical
proximity of the machines. The existing printer and 2 workstations are
in 1 building. The other 2 machines are about 1.5 miles away; the new
printer would be located at the distant site. Frequently, network
problems and power failures affect 1 site and not the other so I'd like
them to not be dependent upon each other.
3. I'd like to define "scallop" (the existing printer) as the default
printer for the machines "tautog" and "squeteague". I'd like to define
the new printer (I've yet to come up w/a name) to be the default printer
for the machines "menhaden" and "quahog".
