I'll contact networks regarding the connection problem, but what about Chichon,
which will not boot up even when the connection on the adjacent machine is fine?

Two problems:
(1) Chichon will not boot properly.
(2) Since both machines were installed about 6 weeks ago,
they lose their network connection two to three times
per several-hour session for about five to ten minutes
each. Typical messages are like: "lost contact with
afs volume server 18... in cell athena.mit.edu" or "all
multi-homed ip addresses lost."
I'm sending this message from Jupiter in 54-311 cluster, and
it just lost its connection as well. I had to re-initialize
and log back in.
Ack! Please help, we can't get any work done. Thanks,

We've tried to problem solve those systems. And we've came down to the network.
There is a problem with the network in that room.
