Hello Gigi -
Connecting an external hard drive to an Athena Indy is the same as
doing that with a non-Athenized Indy. Thus, I'm referring you to
the SGI Consultant at the IS Help Desk. She'll be able to help
you through the steps and also can give you some advice on what to
purchase.
You can call Dorrie at x3-1103 and she will help you out. You
might mention my name, as they normally only help people who have
a paid subscription. I checked it out with her and she'd be glad
to help you.
One thing to watch out for - make sure that you have set your
machine to be PRIVATE just to make sure that Athena doesn't do
something that accidentally does something to your disk. (See the
URL that I refer to below for how to do this.)
Also, if you do need to become root, you can always find out
the default root password on a machine by typing
tellme root
at the Athena prompt. Of course, if you've changed the root
password (which is advisable for a private machine) then only you
know the answer, and the tellme command can't help you out.
