I apparently have discovered a hardware bug on m12-182-3, an SGI Indy
in the neo-Fishbowl cluster. I use fvwm2 in the windowmanagers locker
as my window manager. I use colors in the rgb.txt database for some
of my window manager decorations, but for others I use colors such as
rgbi:0.0/0.05/0.0. Additionally, the bevels on the window manager
decorations are most likely colors calculated from the RGB colors of
the decorations proper, rather than named colors.

When I logged in, all of the colors not listed in the color database
(and even some shades of gray that were) appeared with every other
horizontal pixel as black. This effect is quite visible in the
vertical scroll bar of an XEmacs session, which has vertical gray and
black stripes rather than being solid gray. Over time, many of the
window manager decorations arbitrarily corrected themselves. However,
the X-Windows cursor seems to randomly exhibit this effect; moving the
cursor between the root window and an application window sometimes
caused the cursor to gain vertical stripes and sometimes to lose them.
