Due to a problem discovered today with 8.1 machines not dealing
properly with 8-bit filenames in AFS, the 2-032 cluster machines are
scheduled to be reverted to release 8.0 tomorrow (Friday) morning.
The 8-bit filename breakage is causing some specific Macintosh
software used for a course this term not to work.
I have just recreated the mae-sun4 cluster, which had existed once
before to prevent these machines from updating to 8.1 when a different
problem caused MAE not to function properly. This cluster is slightly
different than before, in that it must allow the machines to function
presently while they are running 8.1, and also allow them to run 8.0
without updating to 8.1 once they are reinstalled.
Cluster: mae-sun4 Label: syslib Data: athena-sun4sys-80 8.0
Cluster: mae-sun4 Label: syslib Data: athena-sun4sys-81 8.1 t
The side-effect of this to note is that once these machines are
reinstalled at 8.0, in their idle state they will periodically mention
that an 8.1 testing release is available. This message can be ignored.
Anyone who would like to verify I got the cluster info set up correctly
is encouraged to do so. :-)
