A cluster user logged into w20-575-127 reported losing contact with
AFS servers. Upon investigation, it turned out that w20-575-128, the
adjacent workstation, was configured with -127's IP address (in
/etc/hosts and /etc/athena/rc.conf), and a user had tried to login to
it and this caused w20-rtr's ARP cache to update to connect -127's ip
address with -128's hardware address.
I thought we'd seen this bug on w20-rtr in the past (refusing to replace
a cached arp entry with a new one for unclear reasons)?
Anyhow, I called 3-8400 and Bob kindly reset the ARP cache on w20-rtr,
solving the immediate problem (saving the user's paper).
I changed -128's ip addresses to be correct and rebooted it, and it
didn't come up (various AFS problems, etc., etc.). Looks like it needs
to be re-installed, but I'm kind of in a hurry. I left a note on it
and shut it down.
