the machine listed in the subject line is failing to boot; it complains about
not receiving any RARP replies.  Its drop appears physically damaged, but
when I unplugged the ethernet cable to try to fix the damage, it complained
about losing carrier until I plugged the cable back in.  It should probably
be looked at... ;)
