I have just sent the message below to olc and the have referred me to this
address.
>I was trying to listen to an audio-file I have received using the
>commmand from the menu in exmh and it has hanged up the workstation
>w20-575-100.
>I pressed the both the reset button and the small round black button
>at the front, to reboot, still it doesn't do anything, the screen is
>black with a blue line at the bottom.
>What can I do about it?
>Thanks,

The only other thing I was doing was starting netscape at the same
time I had clicked on the suggested option from exmh to play an audio
file I got by mail.
The only other odd thing is that the first time I tried to log in it
complained saying something like there is no 'hesiod' information for
crisg. The SGIs at m56 usually do the same, but I try to log in again
and it always work.
The order in which I pressed the buttons was: round first and reset
second. None of them worked.

'm afraid I can't help you with your xess question, but I can try to help
with the locked machine.
I assume w20-575-100 is an SGI? There is a known problem with the SGI's
doing this; it would be helpful if you could send mail to hotline@mit.edu
telling them which machine this was and what you were doing at the time
it crashed.
You say that both the round power button and the tiny hard reset button
failed to do anything?

It is an SGI, and yes both failed, I first pressed the round one, then
the reset one, the screen is still the same way it was, black with a blue line at the b
ottom.
I'll send email to hotline as you suggested.
I guess I can mark the question as done.
Thaks,
Cristina
