minerva, SGI in 13-5051, failed to successfully update to 8.1

(I was away last week, so didn't find out till today)
minerva is an older SGI, an R4000? It looks like the 8.1 release
failed for it. It is not giving an athena prompt, it is giving an SGI
login screen. Root can log in with the default athena password.
On reboot, there are some error messages, and one says something to
the effect of 'Athena update in progress'
Please reinstall the SW, or let me know if there's anything I can do
to get it to try the update again. It's a generic cluster
configuration, no local mods.
