There are two machines in the Athena Cluster for Ocean Engineering
that are experiencing technical problems.
(1) seawolf.mit.edu: is a SPARCclassic with an operating system problem.
The operating system will accept the 'boot' command but just keeps
rebooting itself. Don't know how that one started.
(2) The machine next to seawolf and monohull, a SPARCstation 4 (label
got ripped off so I don't know its node name) I think just has a
monitor problem. The screen is continuously blank. I checked
all connections and still got no satisfaction out of it. But the
pizzabox seems to have power in it (from what I was able to hear).
Also, with regards to the HP LaserJet 4Si MX printer, users are telling
me that the LED often reads "User Maintenance". I was wondering if this
is a problem.
If either workstations (or both) need an Athena software rebuld then just
go on ahead and do it. Students are not supposed to keep any data on
those workstations' disks and we don't back them up so there'd be not problem
with that. Thank you for your help.
OE Athena Cluster is room 7-321.
