Greetings. I am an '87 Sloan MBA.
I write to seek your guidance. As Advisor to the Government of
Gujarat,India, I have been asked to generate suitable options for
a 'massive' IT project: the High Court - the biggest undertaken by
the Govt. so far, and hence a possible role model for the effective
use of IT.
There are 32 courts, and within each, 8 nodes. Additional build-
ings house staff, lawyers and judges. Backbone cabling: UTP CAT5
The judges and lawyers will access data stored on 24 Compact
Discs. Total computers: 400.
Currently proposed (but not frozen yet):
Main machine: Windows-NT server with back office suite (including
a SQL Server to handle the database)
Windows 95/97 as the front end.
Q: Should the front-end be a Network computer (NC)? Or net PC ?
Should there be a separate Inter-net/ Web / Intra-net Server for
enterprise wide communication and messaging as well as external
connectivity ?
Should the main Server be the hub of an Intelligent Building
System?
I ask for your help in 2 ways: your specific response, if your
busy schedule permits. And 2: where should I look?
Thanks and best regards
