Sorry about the extra mail, but it appears (after trying a second
keyboard) that the problem is more serious.
Safety-pup is a sparc4 in e40-342-Bugs3, next to the macintosh with
pink hair.
A more detailed description of what I know:
Safety-pup will beep when the keyboard is first plugged in, but does
not accept input from the keyboard. When the machine is booted, the
display stays blank (black) until the machine has finished booting
multiuser, at which point it displays a completely white screen and
flashes the message "No input device found".
We have tried two keyboards (and two mice) and the behavior is the
same for both. If the keyboard is unplugged and plugged in again
while the machine is on, the machine will beep and stop pinging. It
will need to be rebooted to get it working again. You will need to
wait for the white screen to ensure that it has fully booted.
When the machine is fully booted, I can get an encrypted telnet
session to it and su to root. If it is useful, just ask. I can also
add people to the .klogin if that is more convenient.
If the machine needs to be replaced, I would like the replacement
machine to have the disk from this machine to avoid having to
reinstall all my local binaries. However, I have removed all
unreproducable data from the machine so if it is too inconvenient,
don't bother switching the disks.
Thanks in advance,
