I think the problem I reported with m36-663-1 is software and not hardware,
I logged out by clicking on the "logout" button and then confirming.
I then got the following errors on the display screen
-----
XIO: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pips) on X server ""
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining
The connection was probably broken by a server shutdown of KillClient.

Unable to start xlogin, doing a console login instead
Login: login timed out after 60 seconds.
------
This doesn't happen every time, but it has now happened 4 times in a
week or so. Well, maybe it does happen every time, I am usually not
at MIT on Thursdays. I'll try to test the frequency.
Just for easy reference, herea is a copy of my earlier mail

The machine, M36-663-1, located in 36-683, Model VS424AA,
serial number AB922005SNV has had some strange behavior recently.
On three occasions, when I came in in the morning, I found the display
with the following messages:
-----
Unable to start xlogin, doing console login instead
login: Login timed out after 60 seconds
dm: Unable tostart X

Unable to start xlogin, doing console login instead
login: Login timed out after 60 seconds
-----
Hitting various keys, etc. had no effect. I rebooted each time.
Machine displays no other abnormal symptoms.
The version is 7.2R (it did do both updates)
In all cases I had logged out the previous day.
In two of the three cases I had logged in via sunpal1 the previous night.
A running of "last" shows nothing untoward.
I don't know that anything needs to be done, I though I would report
this rather strange behavior.
