Assuming this is an HP printer of the type we support network printing
with you should do the following:
To get the athena machine working you should look at
/mit/ops/services/print/request-info after attaching the ops locker.
You shoudl mail the relevant info to hesreq@mit.edu. (Do not send it
ot me or any other single person as that is likely to increas the
amount of time it takes to process the request.) We don't support
printing to athena printers from non-athena machines, but if you can
get it to work that is ok. After you get a reply from hesreq you
should run hesinfo printer pcap where printer is the name you chose
for the printer. The output should be put in the /etc/printcap file
on the non-athena machine (it is not necessary to do this for athena
machines). If that doesn't work we can't help you with the non-athena
machine.
