printing problems on our cluster printers

Hi, I'm one of the systems administrators for the economics department,
and for the past few days, we have not had any successful printing jobs
from our cluster printers: MICRO, MACRO, and e52-354-p; all are Athena
printers and are giving some of the following error messages:

Printer status for macro:
Fatal error
somak% lpstat -Pmicro
UX:lpstat: ERROR: The LP print service isn't running or can't be
reached.
TO FIX: Your request can't be completely handled
without the LP print service. If this
problem continues, get help from your
system administrator.

When we do a lpq, it says they are receiving standard input,
but nothing actually prints. Please notify us if you can help
us in this matter ASAP; your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
