Whirr.mit.edu, an AFS database and file server in the dev.mit.edu
cell, will be down briefly this evening. Notices of its progress will
go to Zephyr instance consult.
SCHEDULE:
Whirr will be down for 10+ minutes between 7:30 and 8pm today.
REASON:
One of Whirr's disks (/vicepa) died, and needs replacement.
SERVICES:
AFS file service from Whirr, in the dev cell. Though Whirr is
a database server, the other dev cell DB servers should keep
the dev cell up and running. The Athena cell will be
unaffected.
IMPACT:
It appears that the most user-visible effect will be the
unavailability of the system packs for the alpha-sgi and
beta-sgi clusters. This group includes most E40-3rd SGI
workstations. There are many other volumes on Whirr, but most
of them are used only for IS Athena-environment development.
