SGIs in m2-225 w/ busted CD-ROMS

Two SGIs in 2-225 have CD problems.
m2-225-6 refused to see the CD drive (didn't show on hinv) until I wiggled
the cable and rebooted. Works now.
m2-225-5 sees the CD drive, but instead of going "flash-flash-flash-off"
when a new CD is inserted, it goes "flash-flash-flash-on" forever and
cdman/cdplayer can't see the CD, although hinv does see a drive.
225-5 did this with several CDs, all of which worked in 225-6 after it was
fixed.
(Is this a common SGI problem?)
