It is a little late for this - I have already been on the phone with 
the help people and I seem to have really screwed something up - I can only 
log into the machine as root - the athena root, not root for my system. I wrote
everything I did down so someone else can fix it, but I think what I need
is for someone who knows what they are doing to actually sit at the machine
and deal with this instead of talking me through it. Do you know who I can
call or email to ask about this?
