To: hotline@MIT.EDU Date: Fri, 30 Aug 1996 20:48:24 EDT From: "Richard J. Barbalace" <rjbarbal@MIT.EDU> A user came into SIPB tonight complaining that the SGI workstations in the cluster would not let him read/write from floppy disks. I confirmed that the DOS disk in question was not write-protected, and could be read from and written to on Sparcs. Placing the disk in the floppy drive in an SGI (w20-575-63) did not show the disk icon on the SGI desktop, and the SGI did not recognize that a disk was in the drive. The drive did not appear to be mounted (mount did not show /floppy), and /floppy appeared to be an empty directory, even when the disk had files on it. + Richard
