---------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm a grad student in the Geotechnical group of the
Civil/Environmental Engineering Department. Several other students
and I in Building 1 are working on course-related software development
on Athena this summer, and the closure of the 1-142 lab for the summer
is quite an inconvenience for us. For programs that require xwindows,
our options are now either telnetting to the single dialup machine
that supports x-windows, or walking across campus to the Student
Center, the 11-113/116 clusters, or the clusters in buildings 2 and 4.
Printing is even more of a problem, since the public printers are
located in the clusters that are across campus from us. Why was the
1-142 lab closed for the summer, especially since it was just
renovated last summer? Is there a way that a printer could be made
available for Athena users in building 1, or that those of us doing
work on Athena could use the computers and printer in the 1-115
Computer Classroom? Who would I need to talk to about this?
