First of all, I'm guessing that the other DS3100 is xv.mit.edu.
When sending a report of a problem, please include any error messages
that appear coincidentally with your problem. For example, I suspect
the "Connection timed out" error in the xterm was accompanied by an
error in the console like:
"afs: Lost contact with _____ server _____ in cell _____.mit.edu"
The underscores represent data that we would need to be able to
diagnose your problem.
Anyway, you can very likely solve your AFS problem without our help by
letting the workstation deactivate then reboot, or by rebooting it
twice.
If your problem persists, please tell us if you've tried this remedy,
as well as any error messages you may have seen in the console window.
