Can anyone help with afs problem at CECI

CECI is currently experiencing problems with one of its
HPs (ceci006) which has afs installed on it.
We are receiving the following error messages:

media-lab.mit.edu
afs: lost contact with volume location server 18.85.0.45 in cell
media-lab.mit.edu

the setting clock error message then repeats and eventually the machine hangs.
Would it be possible to get afs removed from this HP machine?
