My SUN SPARC classic just crashed and I cannot figure out why.
The machine is W20-575-12: 18.187.0.31
I was working as usual, but the middle part of the screen suddenly
blanked out with the following messages scrolling by really fast:
NOTICE: ledma0: E_ERR_PEND!
Occationally, there is another message that seems to be the
following (it went by too fast for me to record it):
le0 Lance chip did not initialize
It has stopped scrolling now but all efforts to get a prompt
has failed. I tried ctrl-C, ctrl-Z, and Stop-A but nothing worked.
Once I logged on to my current machine I tried finger @w20-575-12.mit.edu
but that failed to connect.
I don't think that I should just force a hardware reboot because
it might be really bad for the machine - so I am hoping someone
at the hotline can help me out.
I don't know when this message will be read but I'll be working here
in Student Center for the next few hours. I am sitting close to the
computer that just crashed so I will be here if (by chance) someone
will come take a look at it tonight. I have a floopy in the disk drive
so I would appreciate it if someone can leave it around for me by
the computer and I'll try to pick it up as soon as I can.
Thank you.
