Sometime this day, the network drop on the Western wall has flaked out;
workstations in the office which are connected to the drop singly cannot
reach the network. In addition, apparently as a result of this outage,
HODGE.MIT.EDU's ethernet board is now flakey; it fails the self-test
upon boot up, although if you try booting it twice (the second time you
need to specify the bootpath explicitly) it seems to boot and work
correctly.
In the meantime, we've spliced the Western half of the network to our
other drop, and HODGE.MIT.EDU is currently working, although if it ever
needs to boot, people will need to know the arcane magic of monitor
commands to bring it back up again.
Could you please send Dec. Field Service to look at HODGE, and a network
person to take a lot at our Western drop? Thanks!
