We have confirmed that pickled-herring's disk is still good by
placing it in an external enclosure and connecting it to another
(non-AIX) machine. It spun up and we were able to read the data. In
addition, if the disk is connected to pickled-herring it gets as far
as trying to very on the root volume group.
