Hello,
I've been using MAE in the 2-032 cluster for my 12.410
project, and my data is on PSG-server. Normally, one can just
go to Chooser in MAE and click on Appleshare, and then pick
PSG-server, and access one's data. However, on at least four
different machines this weekend, I tried to do this and nothing
appeared in the window when I clicked on Appleshare.
In the xterm window from which I ran MAE, there
appeared an error message saying something like, "Cannot open
the file /dev/appletalk/lap/ethertalk0/control, be sure the file
exists." I typed "cd /dev/appletalk..." and all the directories
existed, but ethertalk0 was empty.
Finally, I logged onto the #2 machine in the cluster,
and it worked, but very slowly. In the xterm window I looked
for the file, and found one called control@ in the ethertalk0
directory.
Since the cluster is generally very very crowded, I can't
generally pick and choose among the machines. The last episode I
related happened on a Sunday night at 7:30pm, and I still had to
punt someone off the #2 machine in order to test it (one of the
TA's for the class mentioned that on Wednesday night, some of
the machines had worked and others hadn't). Please get this
problem fixed on the other machines soon so I can do my project,
which is due in a week and a half.

Thanks,
Lucy Lim
