Hi. The /etc/netmasks file for the WHOI Solaris Athena workstations is not
correct. For this site, we also need a line in this file like this:
128.128 255.255.252.0
What is happening is whenever these workstations (quahog, squeteague and
menhaden) reboot, a new netmasks file is downloaded overwriting this local
change. The result is the inability for students to get out to other
machines not on MIT's network or other machines not on the Solaris machine's
subnet. Similarly, I am unable to rlogin/telnet remotely to these machines
for administrative purposes. The source netmasks there would need to be
updated to reflect this. Can this be done? In the meantime, when any of
these machines reboot, I must manually edit netmasks and restart networking.
The DECstation tautog is not affect by this since it is running Ultrix.
Thanks for your help.
