The following request has come to me from the Civil and Environmental
Engineering faculty in building 48. They would like to have an MITnet
connection installed in the classroom in Building 48 (48-316), and they will
be moving one of the department's Athena workstations that are in building 48
into that room so that it can be used in lecture.

I volunteered to get the process started with this email to hotline and
net-help. The contact within the department is Prof. Lynn Gelhar:

	      name: Gelhar, Lynn W
	     email: GELHAR@MIT.EDU
	     phone: (617) 253-7121
	   address: 48-329
	department: Civil & Envrnmtl Eng
	     title: Professor

There are two questions that I forgot to ask when I was on the telephone with
Prof. Dennis McLaughlin, who made the request.

1. I'm not sure whether the room is controlled by the Department or by the
Registrar. If it is controlled and scheduled by the Department, then they
should be billed for the network installation and ongoing costs. If by the
Registrar, then IS will pay, as we do for such general classroom network
drops. In this case, we would add the room to our published list of
"classrooms containing Athena workstations." Please let me know what you
find out.

2. I forgot to ask about how they plan to secure the workstation in the
room. This needs to be thought about before they move it.

I'd appreciate your letting me know once the Green Sheet process gets started
who is the Network Consultant assigned to this request.

		Thanks - Naomi Schmidt
